Mix #113 by Ralph Lawson

Our 112th podcast comes from a DJ that holds the records for the longest ever residency in recent underground electronic music. Ralph Lawson, a Leeds based DJ, kicked off his career and played the very first record in the legendary British club “Back to Basics” where to this date, he withholds a residency. In his recent history, Ralph played and got accredited in some of the world’s most respected night clubs around the world, where he obtained esteemed residencies among clubs such as Space Ibiza, Barcelona’s Loft and Berlin’s Watergate club. Ralph caught the Acid bug back in 1988 as he shifted from London to England’s house mecca of Leeds where he later started his infamous 2020 Vision record label in 1994.

In 2002 the idea of a live act began to take shape and along with fellow label artist, Dubble D they created the basis of a DJ set accompanied by a live drum sets which set the tone in creating their very first Soundsystem. 2003 marked the completion of the Soundsystem, with bass & keyboard players, as all plans felt into place they were performing in notorious clubs such as Warehouse or Fabric.

Among the many projects started over the years, the one that ingathered the most is his long standing 2020 Vision. Started back in the vinyl era, when digital music as at his first, the label broke out in digital stores in late 1998 but it was established in 1994, by that time the majority of us didn’t have any clue about what house really is . Ralph’s vision continues to persist and has suffered little changes in the past years. Having a protuberant sound, with roots still in the 90’s acid house, it withholds an impressive street reputation among the industry. The lists of artists that appear on 2020 Vision releases are endless. From Huxley, to Jimpster, to Crazy P and many in between.

June 29th marks the labels 20th anniversary and they’ve released “Content”, a CD mixed by non-other than the head honcho himself Ralph Lawson. The mix contains track and unreleased bonus tracks by names like Huxley, Cassy, Simian mobile Disco, Citizen, 2020 Soundsystem, Tom Trago, Burnski, Groove Armada, Maya Jane Coles.

You can get your copy of the Cd digitally here, but don’t forget to taste the above mentioned podcast. Prepare for a “smiley face” feeling.
