Mix #124 By Tom Ruijg
#124 in our Mixtape series comes from the Dutch DJ and producer Tom Ruijg. The story of how and why he became an artist is somewhat of a fairy tail. After spending a big part of his teenage life on the dance floor, Tom picked up DJ’ing in 2007 and a year later he started producing.
People who inspired him during shaping his personality of a DJ and producer were Ludovic Navarre, Gemini, Maurizio, Daniel Bell, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Ricardo Villalobos, Zip, Terrence Dixon, Levon Vincent, DJ QU, Fred P, Mr. G, Cymande, and Roy Ayers.
Getting acknowledgment from Amsterdam house artists like Boris Werner, Tom released two remixes shortly after. His first solo 12″ followed early in 2010 on BangBang! It was an instant hit and BangBang! decided to sign him for two more singles. Starting to play live aside from DJ’ing Tom became more and more versatile and respected.
Now, some years later he has a full 12″ on Karat Records and tracks on Hot Waves, an offshoot of Hot Creations. He is also hosting his own label night at the legendary Trouw together with Beesmunt Soundsystem, called Soundmachine. You can enjoy the next one on the 31st of October. For now, enjoy the lush mix by this promising Amsterdam artist.
