Set to expose Iran’s underground techno scene, a new documentary tracks the plight of a Tehranian DJ duo as they face struggle, danger, and persecution.
Produced by Swiss filmmaker Susanne Regina Meures, ‘Raving Iran’ traces DJ Anoosh and Arash who are, “tired of hiding from the police and their stagnating career, organize one last manic techno rave under dangerous circumstances in the desert.”
As you may or may not know, Western music is banned from the TV and radio waves of Iran’s state run media, recently holding consequence on six youths who were sentenced to jail and lashings over a self-made dance video to Pharell’s ‘Happy’.
The film has no release date for cinema’s yet, however is enjoying a festival run that includes Tornoto’s Hot Docs, Munich’s Dok.fest, and Switzerland’s Iranian Film Festival.
