Rising star Ejeca is about to team up with Needwant again, this time for the release of his brand new Together EP. Together shows Ejeca in top form, satisfying our sonic souls with his signature, vocal driven blend of deephouse and garage.
It has been hard not to take notice of Ejeca last year. He was topping the charts in the second half of 2012 with his sprawling hits ‘Descend’ and ‘Night Rays’. He released a range of productions on hot labels as 2020Vision, Lokee Musik, DeepWit Recordings and released multiple remixes on Sony. The Northern-Irishman’s career has pretty much skyrocketed since then, firmly nesting himself in the scene.
Together EP shows Ejeca’s formidable production skill set yet again, sticking to his own sound without ever becoming repetitive or less intriguing. The title track starts off pretty simplistic. But the basic synth lead clears the way for something special. Short bass stabs provide a firm undertone, while the pitched vocal snippets work side by side with amazing vintage piano riffs to give a dreamy, quixotic air to the piece. Terrence Parker’s take is more frivolous than Ejeca’s. While creating a fine interplay between layered pianos, muffled organs and sweeping snares, you can almost savour the Detroit sound.
‘Horizon’ is perhaps one of Ejeca’s best known tracks and is re-released as an edit on Together EP. This time the angle is somewhat rougher, but as a whole it’s less wild than the original, but maybe that’s just because the “WOO” shout has disappeared. The focus now lies on a slightly distorted bass line, impressively supported by a plentiful body of synthesised goodness.
The closing track, ‘Forest’, is magic. It’s the perfect ending to an already outstanding cut, but Forest in itself could be the introduction to a completely new record. It’s a lullaby that’s just as blissful on the dancefloor as it is in a small bedroom. A rich and sophisticated bass line lies at its core, pulsating with varying intensity throughout the song’s course, occasionally assisted by atmospheric pads.
Together EP hits the spot. The main track is solid gold, guaranteed to be a dancefloor soundtrack some time to come; Forest is in a league of its own, and the Parker remix and the edit to Horizon are very welcome additions, creating a colourful, full package that will satisfy both fans and newcomers to the Ejeca sound.
Last but not least: we brought him to Amsterdam first, and we made sure to bring him here for the second time. So if you want to catch the man playing, than make sure to attend the Deep House Amsterdam – Needwant label night at BARKODE, on the last day of ADE on October 20th. He will be playing exclusively at just this event. Together with fellow deephouse soldiers Mario Basanov, The Mekanism, Jay West, Sean Brosnan & Prunk, he will be providing a massive party, and a proper conclusion to five days of Amsterdam Dance Event.
