Gilles Peterson has described Sun Ra & His Solar Orchestra’s “Secrets Of The Sun” as “the ultimate artist for any vinyl collector”.
Now, the super rare vinyl has found its way to eBay, with, what may be the only one in existence, a colored edition (the standard black vinyl edition sold on Discogs £800) with the starting bid of $499.
“Secrets of the Sun” was recorded in New York in 1962 and features six tracks, from dreamy space jazz to the avant garde. The Lp was released, however, in 1965 via Ra’s El Saturn Records, with this orange pressing widely thought as the only coloured edition in existence.
Though the eBay listing describes the product as having some surface issues, thus probably leading to compromised audio quality but, whatever, it may be the ultimate collector’s item.
