Saturday February 15th, a new winter festival is born when Verknipt and Deep House Amsterdam are joining forces to create Wonderland Festival. For no less than 16 hours (from 4pm until 8am) Westerunie, Westerliefde and Transformatorhuis in Amsterdam’s cultural Westerpark are turned into a promised land with the best in deep house and techno. A place where mad things happen and nothing is what it seems, and where a long list of local and international DJ’s will make this a mezmerising trip down the rabbit hole.

Verknipt has made a name for itself in a short period of time by organising parties in Amsterdam and Utrecht. Venues like Westerunie, Sugar Factory, Club Poema or Winkel van Sinkel were all host to one or more events before they moved to Westerunie for two XL editions. What makes their parties so popular is the stylish, colourful design, a blend of (inter)national techno and deephouse DJs and visitors who are kindly asked to leave their normal self at home and come as their crazy alter-ego.

All the above can be found in abundance at Wonderland Festival when the doors to the three areas open. Area 1 is the place to be for the techno minded. Undoubtedly, many eyes will be on Joop Junior when he performs his live set, as well as Tommy Four Seven, Marco Bailey and Olivier Weiter, with more artists to be announced soon.

Karmon, the Dutch member of the Diynamic family, will for many people be one of the main reasons for visiting area 2. With his ‘Feel it EP’ and remix of Fabo‘s Where I Stand, he stole the hearts of many deep house fans. Besides that, Sidney Charles, the man behind last summer’s festival hit Ruffline, can be seen in this area, as is the Danish talented DJ/producer KANT who had some very successful releases on Sleazy Deep and KATERMUKKE this year. Darius Syrossian (UK, Hot Creations) and De Sluwe Vos complete the time table for area 2.

Wonderland festival 2

After a truly amazing 2013 wonderboy Prunk cruises into 2014 headlining area 3. With his melodic and emotive  sets, being more and more composed of his own productions, he knows exactly how to please the Amsterdam crowd. He’s not the only one, ’cause with the likes of Cleavage, Homework, Piotr & Zhan and Melon there’s even more for deep house to be found at the Mad Tea Party stage. The first relatively new in the business, but taking the scene by storm with their catchy, soulful productions. The latter a true house veteran who always delivers, no matter when or where he’s playing. Last but not least Verknipt resident John Steel and WNDWLCKRS (all the way from Gotham City!) will be spinning their records in this area.

All in all it’s clear that difficult choices have to be made at Wonderland Festival. With so many big names and upcoming talents, one could easily get mad from running around trying to get a fair share of them all. And maybe that’s exactly the intention of the organisation. After all, at Verknipt everything is possible and nothing goes too far. We’re all mad here. That’s what happens when you crawl through the rabbit hole.
