Legendary Paradox is Berlin based artist who recently released his “Clout Shout” Ep on Impress Music. We sat down with him recently to discuss how it came about, and to find out more about his journey into dance music….
Hey, how are you, how has 2022 been for you?
Hiya! I’m pretty good thanks.
First off thanks for having me, This year looks very good to me so far as I’m going to release the first EP ever with this project and that makes me feel delighted.
Tell us about how you got to where you are now, your journey into music?
I’ve not got a certain answer to how come I ended up here today. Looking back over the years I got into electronic music listening mainly to House and Techno as a teenager, and eventually I felt the need to start playing and producing that kind of music. I expanded my knowledge during my 7 years in Berlin where I used to spend most of the Sundays at Panorama Bar listening to the finest house, garage, disco bangers.. good memories though! Sorry for the enthusiasm over the top, but those times mean a lot to me 🙂
There are lots of styles in this new “Clout Shout” EP on Impress Music – jungle, breaks, rave, house, techno – are they all things you grew up listening to?
As mentioned before my roots come from House and Techno music, but nevertheless over the years, I increasingly have been fascinated by all that scene from the UK e.g. artists like Lone, Four Tet, Floating Points, Joy Orbison, but also artists from the modern Jungle/breaks dnb scene like Tim Reaper, Sully, LMajor, Sherelle and of course from the classic such as the godfathers Fabio & Grooverider..
What gear do you use currently, does that matter to you?
I only use virtual instruments. It started as a necessity due to my long periods away from home for work, when you travel a lot it becomes impossible to bring gears with you. Actually today traveling itself plays a fundamental role in my productions as if it were proper gear!
What inspired or influenced the new EP?
Closer, which is unlike any track of the EP, it comes deep down from my heart. I’m not sure but I think that I was thinking of the love I have for my family whilst I was playing the main synth.
Talking about EZ and Clout Shout, there are influences by the music from Denham Audio, Breaka, Overmono, Elkka..
On the closing track Sunrise I worked on the drums and the arrangement, so it would better asking to Francesco about it, as he composed all the synths. I’ll let you know what he says.. (haha!)
Do you write with an end goal in mind, a certain setting, set time, dance floor?
My mind goes fast when I’m down on making music, I don’t think it’s about a proper goal, I would call it a “need”, my aim is simply to satisfy that desire to feed my soul. I have fun, I freak out, sometimes I cry when I’m making music.. If some of these emotions are arriving to the people.. I’m even happier.
How did you hook up with Francesco Carone and what was it like working together?
Working with a Musician like him is simply fantastic. We know each other from many years, we have been also “roommates” in Berlin for a period where then we realised to have huge connection since day one, making plenty of tracks together. Over the years we kept on making music together despite no longer living under the same roof and finally today we are about to release the first track.. of many others I hope!
What else have you got coming up/are you working on?
I won’t spill the beans!
What was the last record you bought and why?
Wow, you just made me realize that I haven’t bought a record in a long time (Am I so bad..?) but I can tell you one that drove me nuts before to buy it as I couldn’t find the ID: LB Lynam – Get Things Straight.
