Ukrainian duo Off Night continue to go from strength to strength with their first releases being supported by the legendary Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 show, and heavy-hitters Sascha Braemer and Oliver Schories agreeing to remix their tracks.
They also regularly share the decks with headliners like Tale of Us in their home town and Since 2021, they’ve host their own radio weekly show on Ibiza Global Radio.
We got to chat to Off Night ahead of the release of their new single on Family Piknik.
Hey guys, great to chat! How are you, how has your year been so far?
Hello, nice to speak to you! Last year, despite all the difficulties and surprises, it was excellent. We worked a lot on music, released several successful releases, hosted our own events “Off Night Invites” with guests like Adana Twins, Adriatique & BOg. We played a big party with Tale Of Us and became residents, in our opinion, of one of the best radio stations in the world, Ibiza Global Radio with our monthly radioshow. After a short break, we started this year with the release of «Young» single featuring amazing vocals by Elly Ball and great pack of remixes.
How did you get to where you are in music? What has been your journey so far?
Our beginning primarily comes from the love of music, and by coincidence, we have combined our efforts and experience to achieve new goals and heights.
What do you pride yourself on as being unique?
Having many years of experience and being music lovers by nature, we have formed our vision and the direction in which we want to move. We are constantly working on our sound trying to use different stylistic elements from different styles in our tracks.
What inspired the new release? Where and when was it written, and with what in mind?
We have been wanting to record a track with female vocals for a long time and in our opinion, Elly Ball fits this role very well. We quickly found a common language, and a few weeks later the song was born. We tried to convey the notes of the summer vibe and a little romance. We hope it worked out well for us and our listeners will appreciate it.
What sort of studio setup do you have, what are the key bits of gear?
We have our small studio in Kyiv where we produce all of our tracks. We work in Ableton, using plugins but also recording sounds form few of our analog machines. For mixing we normally work with professional sound engineers like Klas Lindblad @ Blackhead Studios, Berlin
You have released on various labels – do you always tailor what you make to each one?
Yes, we always try to stick to the concept of the sound of this or that label, but at the same time we bring in a piece of our vision.
What was the last record you bought and why?
It was an amazing release on Afterlife called Distorted Youth EP by Innellea . Each track, in our opinion, is unique and always causes the right reaction on the dance floor.
Have you got any other projects coming up you’d like to tell us about?
Next release we have planned on Protagonist Recordings with amazing remix by Ten Walls, we are really looking forward to this one in March 2022
