Following his last EP ‘What You Need’ on SoSure Music, London-based, NYC-bred DJ & producer Hollis Parker returns with his latest track, 4JD.
A track dedicated to marking the 10-year anniversary of the passing of legendary Hip Hop beatsmith J Dilla, Parker flips one of the same samples the late Dilla did 20 years ago for one of his biggest records at the time. Says Parker of the track,
“Dilla has always been a huge influence of mine, the way he flipped samples and created grooves with that dusty, laid-back feel that still had tremendous energy. It’s fair to say that without Dilla, Hollis Parker might not exist. His work with Q-Tip & Ali Shaheed Muhammad as The Ummah as well really and truly changed my life. 10 years after his passing, I wanted to pay tribute to a man who passed too soon, and who continues to influence me on a daily basis. RIP J Dilla.”
Hollis Parker is currently wrapping up production on a brand new mixtape and his debut LP, both due out later this year.
