BSH Island is one of the jewels in the Croatian festival crown. It was also one of the first events of summer 2021 provided attendees had proof of a negative test or two vaccinations. Once you arrive, there are no restrictions at the event so we immediately get down to some long overdue business. It was a fairly emotional affair from the off after so long spent away from experiences like this, with plenty of hugs, energy and smiles.
It mostly goes down at Noa Beach Club, one of the best in the region, right on the edge of the glistening Adriatic Coast. As well as those amazing views, the dancing decks are all tastefully designed with lush palm trees and a killer sound system that makes it something like Ushuaia in Ibiza. We hear voices from people all over Europe on the dance floor and everyone has a big smile, finally happy to be out partying again.
Day One saw standout warm up sets from local talents doing it right – tunes like Danny Howell’s Players, Norman Zube’s Solid and Marco Carola’s classic, Bloody Cash, really get us going before the big man Paco Osuna brings the techno. He played off his laptop and had a devoted crowd pressed right up to his DJ booth with loads of loops and tricks throughout.
Day Two was something very different indeed, as world renowned brand Amnesia head over from the White Isle for a special event in an amazing off location – the ancient old fortress up on the hillside near the town of Pag itself. The incredible fort location overlooks the famous Pag Bridge with panoramic views of the ocean and it is kicked off by Luca Donzelli who plays some slick, groovy tech and gets everyone vibing.
A highlight later on was Marco Faraone, whose stature seems to be growing with every passing event we catch him at. Definitely a man for the big occasion! He brilliantly set up, Jamie Jones who arrived around 830pm and immediately won over the crowd. Plenty of smoke machines and incredible ‘Amnesia Ibiza’ graphics in the background really added to the sense of occasion and he dropped loads of cheeky vocals to get the vibes going. Later on the same day, a supposed afterparty at 6am on a yacht saw 100 dancers all go extra wild. But what happens on the boat, supposedly stays on the boat!
Day 3 was something of a blur after going so hard for the first two days, but Noa once again came alive with some big sets and sun kissed dancing while Marco Faraone at Kalypso did a special secret back to back with his pal Dennis Cruz. It was playful and fun with some garage tunes even dropped in. A hark back to the good times, that’s for sure.
The last day was a doozy with a special sunset session on a yacht. Richy Ahmed played some classics with loads of his northern UK mates in tow and back at Noa the main stage was lit up with the edgy sounds of the Do Not Sleep crew. Ilario Alicante and Sidney Charles served up rolling house and deep techno and even a late thunderstorm didn’t dismay the crowd who kept on going.
BSH Island is a perfect place to head for open air, sun kissed dancing in a gorgeous location. It isn’t as busy or expensive as Ibiza, but it offers all the same sort of magical experiences. Make sure you get it on your list for 2021. Below are 5 tracks that absolutely banged from BSH Island 2021. It’s safe to say this one will live long in the memory for some time yet!
