Hey Mary, lovely to meet you! What inspired you to pursue a career as a DJ and producer?

Hey there! It’s lovely to meet you too. My inspiration to pursue a career as a DJ and producer came from my deep passion for music and creativity. Growing up, I was always surrounded by different musical influences, and I found myself drawn to the energy and innovation of electronic music. The turning point was when I started experimenting with CDJs at home and playing at friends’ parties, which ignited my desire to create and share my own sound with the world.

How would you describe your musical style and approach to production?

My musical style is a blend of melodic techno and progressive house. I strive to create a journey with my music, incorporating deep melodies, emotional progressions, and a lot of energy. My approach to production is very organic; I let my emotions and inspirations guide me. I also like to incorporate ethnic and tribal elements into my tracks, adding unique textures and rhythms that give my music a distinctive and immersive quality. Each track starts with a core idea, whether it’s a melody, a vocal line, or a specific mood, and I build around it, experimenting with different sounds and textures until it feels just right.

Can you share some insights into the creative process behind your latest release, “Find You”?

“Find You” was a track born out of reflection and a desire to connect deeply with my audience. During the production process, I focused on creating a melodic and immersive atmosphere. I used ethereal vocals and layered synths to build a sense of journey and discovery. The track came together during a particularly introspective time, which I think helped infuse it with a lot of emotion and depth.

What influence does your Brazilian heritage have on your music?

My Brazilian heritage plays a significant role in my music. Brazil’s rich cultural tapestry, vibrant rhythms, and diverse sounds have all influenced my approach to music. I often incorporate subtle elements of Brazilian music into my tracks, especially those with African heritage. The percussive Afro-Brazilian elements inspire me greatly, adding a unique rhythmic foundation to my work. This blend creates a unique fusion that pays homage to my roots while still pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

How do you balance running your own label, Mesk Records, with your personal artistic endeavors?

Currently, Mesk Records is undergoing a transformation. We’re creating a new visual identity and developing projects to support emerging artists. Balancing this with my personal artistic endeavors requires careful time management and dedication. It’s challenging, but seeing the label evolve and being able to support new talent is incredibly rewarding. I make sure to allocate time to both my music and the label’s projects, ensuring that I can grow as an artist while helping others do the same.

What have been some of the highlights of your performances at Lollapalooza and Laroc?

Performing at Lollapalooza Brazil was incredibly gratifying, and a dream come true. The audience’s energy and passion made it an unforgettable experience. Laroc Club is always special because of its amazing atmosphere and connection with the fans, and it recently ranked #10 in the Top 100 Clubs in the world. Each of these experiences has been deeply enriching and has left a lasting impact on me as an artist.

How do you navigate the challenges of being a female DJ and producer in the electronic music industry?

Navigating the challenges as a female DJ and producer involves a lot of resilience and determination. There are obstacles, but I’ve always focused on my passion for music and let that drive me forward. It’s important to surround yourself with a supportive community and to stay true to your vision. Supporting new talents and fostering a positive environment is key to overcoming these challenges.
What advice would you give to aspiring female DJs and producers?

My advice to aspiring female DJs and producers is to stay true to yourself and your sound. Don’t be afraid to take risks and push boundaries. It’s important to keep honing your craft and to be persistent, even when faced with challenges. Study hard, travel, and immerse yourself in different musical cultures to gain inspiring references. Build a strong support network of fellow artists and mentors, and always believe in your talent and potential. Your unique voice and perspective are what make you stand out, so embrace that fully.

Are there any artists or musicians who have influenced your sound?

Absolutely. In the past, artists like Paul Kalkbrenner, Stephan Bodzin, Dixon, Solomun, and Nora En Pure have had a significant influence on my sound. Their creativity, innovation, and dedication to their craft have always inspired me. I also draw inspiration from a wide range of genres and artists, which helps keep my music fresh and diverse.

What can we expect from you in the future? Any upcoming projects or collaborations we should know about?

I’m really excited about the future. I have several new tracks in the works, and I’m planning to release music consistently over the next year. I’m also in the process of building a new studio and am thrilled to share the result with my audience. There are also some exciting collaborations with other artists that I can’t wait to share.

Additionally, I’ll be performing at the Festival Itencity 2024 in Craiova, Romania, on June 30. After that, I have more shows to confirm in Europe in July.
