You might have heard of David Kochs already – but only if you like to listen to a particular genre of electronic music that sits in between rock-solid techno and a blast of golden tinsel.
Taking his inspirations from musicians and bands as diverse as Gesaffelstein, Jacques Greene or Pional, David has achieved a unique musical style. Think of heavy techno as the underbelly, sizzling electro as the heart and leftfield pop-music as the soul. All of this is held together by his own musical vision. Sounds underground? Well, David is anything but mainstream – but he is about to go main floor.
Until early 2019, David was somewhat of a DJs’ producer. His intriguing productions that added mundane mystery to a straight techno-vibe were loved by a select few and played on dancefloors all over the world. But then, Davids track “Ghost Trance” was scheduled for release on Huntleys & Palmers, and that changed everything. Getting picked up and played out by the big names, the track could be heard on almost every dancefloor from São Paulo to Sydney and from New York to Nürnberg. DJ’s like Dixon, Âme, Peggy Gou, Roman Flügel, Tale of Us, Solomun, Denis Horvat and Kornél Kovács turned the tune into their favourite hidden weapon and thanks to that support, “Ghost Trance” was picked by Mixmag’s “Big Tunes” section as number one, comparing it to “2019’s answer to Roman Flügel’s Geht’s Noch?”.
As a DJ, David mixes techno with house and electro – and has been doing so alongside artists like Benjamin Fröhlich, Jennifer Cardini, Len Faki, Rødhåd, DJ Tennis, Konstantin Sibold, Roman Flügel, Cleveland, DJ Seinfeld, Marcus Worgull, Recondite, Patrice Bäumel, Adam Beyer and many more. He is also hosting his own events in his hometown Augsburg.
We’re very happy to welcome David Kochs to our mix series, serving up this powerful electro infused set.
