Pôngo is the electronic music project and live act of Giovanni and Daniele Bruni, two brothers and composers born and based in Italy. Their strong influences blending electro, soul, and techno have created this new way to approach the electronic music scene, with the combination of evocative songs and a powerfully refined set.

We caught up with Pôngo to talk about their latest live stream from Tenax, musical influences, live setup, and more.

Hey Giovanni & Daniele! It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How has 2023 been for you so far?

Hi guys, nice to meet you.

2023 has certainly been a very exciting year to date, especially in terms of our music and the time we spent in the studio. Many new figures have arrived in our professional life that are certainly bringing positive energy also on the managerial side of the Péngo project.

Congrats on your latest live stream recorded at the reputable Tenax Club in Florence! What was your experience working on this live set?

We decided from the beginning that all our new music produced in the last 6 months would be at the center of this project. We
like to give ourselves many parallel goals in the studio in order to publish our music on labels that we find interesting. The live at Tenax was definitely one of them.

Hailing from Italy, how important was it for you to showcase your new live program at such a renowned venue?

Tenax has always been a point of reference for the Italian clubbing scene, For over 30 years now, the biggest names and international artists have been there to bring their art to this incredible club. Having the opportunity to experience it exclusively for the recording of our last live at was a unique and really suggestive moment.

Can you mention some musical influences that you believe have shaped your sound?

Our musical influences have always been very varied. We have been making music since the age of 14 and we started from hip hop (Giovanni) and metal/crossover (Daniele), both as singers but also as DJs and musicians.

The turning point was around 20 years when our streets, despite being brothers, crossed even more artistically with a strong attraction for electronic music.

From that moment we felt really free to express ourselves without constraints and patterns.

What does your live setup look like? How do you distribute responsibilities?

When we play live we work very closely together, where Daniele follows more the part of arrangement and direction of the live set and Giovanni as well as singing, intervenes with the use of synthesizers and effects often improvising where appropriate.

Can you name some of the instruments or plugins that you believe define your sound?

Surely ableton live is our reference program, our home where everything comes from in the studio and where it is also arranged all our set that we carry around on our tours. As vst we are very fond of the Diva and Repro 1 and Repro 5, that is of vintage synth emulators that recall the dance and electro sounds of the mid 80s and early 90s.

Where can people expect to see you performing live in the coming months?

From early spring we will be back on tour in Europe, with several concerts in Italy and many other countries. Soon we will release the dates of our new concerts on all our social networks. We are very happy and excited to be able to hear a lot of new music around festivals and clubs in the coming months, especially some new singles we really believe in.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer our questions, is there anything else you would like to mention before we go?

Thank you for sharing this moment with us.
