Hailing from the US and now firmly settled on the vibrant Thai island of Koh Phangan, Aaron Suiss has become an integral part of the electronic dance music scene. This time around Aaron Suiss is delivering a new EP «Your Move» in collaboration with Peled and Avian Haviv on Desert Hearts Black.
We spoke to Aaron Suiss about his latest release, inspiration, studio setup, and more.
Hey Aaron! How’s your summer been so far?
Hey guys my summer has been great! I’ve already been to a bunch of countries getting to experience the cultures and foods. The shows have been great! Excited for the second half of the year.
Congrats on the release of «Your Move» EP on Desert Hearts Black. What was your inspiration behind this record?
Well there are 3 tracks in this EP so I actually got inspired by multiple things. For the main track Your Move Peled and I really felt like making something that can work in both the housey and techno genres and once Avian sent over the vocals it’s was game over. For Bahia that was more inspired by my feelings after attending Universo Parallel festival in Bahia Brazil and I See came to me during a new move to San Cristobal De las Casas Mexico.
You have collaborated with Peled and Avian Haviv for this EP. How did you meet? What was your experience working together?
Peled and I have been friends for a while and we started making music together not too long ago. After the first few tracks we just decided that we work well together and compliment each other well.
Avian and I go back about 10 years. I made a more euro trance style track with her around 7/8 years ago under a different name and we have been close ever since. I love working with both Avian and Peled.
What does your studio setup look like?
Well at the moment my studio is in many pieces as I’m traveling so much but usually I’m working with Machie XR824 an Arturia 61 Keylab and a Novation Peak. As I’m traveling I’ve got my laptop and a good pair of headphones and rent studios wherever I can. In Berlin I usually use Pirate Studios.
Can you mention some of the instruments and plugins that make up your trademark sound?
I use Diva a lot to be honest it’s my go to synth. Also legend for stabs and more bassy Moogish sounds. For I See the 3rd track of the EP I used the novation peak on a few elements there.
What has been your highlight gig this year so far?
My favourite places to play are in my home Koh Phangan Thailand. I’d have to go with Halfmoon Festival and Eden Garden. I always have such a good time and get a proper vibe there. But I will say the Perspectives Digital Showcase at Klankerkranich Berlin was super vibes. Honestly all my shows have been great. There is one in particular that I’m looking forward to every year and that is NYE with Universo Parallelo in Bahia Brazil. Hence the name of track 2.
How do you define success? Is it about the numbers or is there more to it?
To me success is a personal thing. A personal feeling you have in your mind. I mean look at the end of the day we all need to make a living so if I’m living from my music then I consider myself successful but more so to me it is a mindset. Even if you are doing well and have great performances if your mind is not in the right place you may feel that you are not succeeding or successful. So being in a good mindset and feeling successful mentally is extremely important.
Now that «Your Move» EP is out, what is next for Aaron Suiss?
Wow, well this year is already full of releases almost until the end of the year. There are a lot of things coming but next one I’m super excited for is my EP on Poesie which will be out August 25th.
Last but not least, is there a message that you wish to spread to the world?
Yes my message is to everyone “don’t take things too hard. Enjoy your life. Make sure to smile and be good and if you can’t be good, be yourself” lots of love
