We sit down with German melodic techno duo Add-us to celebrate their latest release on their ARTISAN label ‘Universe’. We discuss how the duo came to be, the elements behind the sound, their inspirations and more…
Hi guys! How are we? Great to have you with us! What were your highlights of 2023?
It was our gig by the fusion. It was very special to experience the festival and gave us new impressions.
How did you guys come to meet to form Add-us? What’s the backstory?
We met as teenagers and were both already making music. After an orientation break, we then founded the duo.
What unique elements would you say each of you have which blend to form the music you make?
Robert is very precise and has a good ear for the perfect mix. Patrick is creative and arranges the track perfect.
Tell us about your forthcoming release on your ARTISAN label. What inspired ‘Universe’?
Universe is a cinematic techno sound with toms and many other elements. We wanted to make a mystical track that takes the listener on a journey.
How did your ARTISAN label come to be? What’s the story behind that?
We founded artisan as a platform for our music and would like to give other artists the chance to publish their music with us in the future.
What is your studio set up like? Are you gear heads?
We now have a fairly simple studio. We had several hardware synthesizers for a while. We just like producing with plug-ins at the moment.
What has been an essential track for your sets this year?
There were several tracks from Massano.
What music do you guys listen to outside of the electronic spectrum?
Patrick sometimes likes to listen to very quiet instrumental music, like just playing a piano.
What do you do to relax outside of producing and DJing?
We love riding our e-bikes
What artist has been your biggest inspiration music wise?
Of course, we have also followed the journey of tale of us that has left its mark on our music.
What is the last track that blew your mind?
At the moment we love to play the track from Dyzen – Dialouge
What can fans look forward to from you guys in 2024?
A lot of new music with a unique, fantastic sound
