Hey Massimo – how are you, how has 2022 started off for you, both personally and professionally?
Thanks to you DEEP HOUSE LONDON for the interview. Well my 2022 is off to a great start, new goals, lots of great music, an album on my reborn SUPERBA record label, and a craving to return to playing for thousands of people.
What did the pandemic teach you about yourself, or make you realise about your own life?
In 2021 I too like many, was a victim of the pandemic. I was at home for a month, but it allowed me to reflect on the important things in life, family and health. With health and constancy you can be reborn continuously, and start again! These have been 2 difficult years but those who have resisted like me will reap the benefits!
The Eighties inspired the new album right? Why was that time so important to you?
I lived the eighties in the height of my adolescence. The magic of the sounds of those times still echo in the present ones. I was 20 in 1986 and the melody of Tony Hadley’s voice in True the Barricades still belongs to me after all these years. At 14 I didn’t like Rock in Punk but I already liked Giorgio Moroder and his I feel Love. The beginning of electronics for me.
How did you translate that into contemporary club music?
I followed my emotions, my intuition, for me it’s my new international meta.
Where and when was it written, and does that matter?
It was conceived during the winter, step by step I produced new sounds, new melodies, “there was a lot of time to produce” :). Then one day I thought of collecting these 8 productions, and adding a ninth track!
What gear did you use, any bits of kit really define your sound?
I mainly use Studio One to produce, edit or mix Pro tools too. I love to call my sound Melodic Deep but it is a mix of Electronics, Progressives and Techno that I almost always like to accompany with beautiful voices.
How different does this album sound to you making 12”s?
The difference this time lies in the decision to launch an album, after my first 20 productions on my Label, to give a relaunch signal, for those who follow me, and for those who follow my sound.
Are you thinking of where music might be heard and played when making it? Does the audience matter?
When I make my music, I always think that first of all it must please me, my message through the music must pass and reach an audience. It is not the most important thing but it is fundamental!
Did you make the music to play in your own sets, is there a relationship like that?
Yes, I play my music in my DJ sets. The relationship between the set and the production is the artist in you, playing my music is like traveling and I always try to convey this type of emotion.
What else have you got coming up for the rest of the year in the pipeline?
For this year I plan to play, between Italy, Spain, Greece, maybe in London who knows! There are also singles and collaborations with other labels in the program, and 1 summer residence.
Massimo Logli LP “Through My Barricades” will be released on Superba Records on 1st April 2022
