Who is behind OffBeat, and what does each person bring?

Off Beat has been set up by the team at OpenLab, including the CEO, TinTin Chambers, Music Director Alex Wolfenden and Development Director Ralph Lawson. Between the team we have a wealth of experience both creating and curating. Our CEO TinTin Chambers wasoriginally responsible for some of the UK’s most influential and legendary raves ‘Energy’. Whilst Ralph Lawson is the founder of the iconic 20 20 Vision label.

What was the idea that sparked this off?

OffBeat is an extension of OpenLab as a platform, which is a champion of the more alternative end of electronic music. With OffBeat we wanted to create something a little fresh on the Island, where the avant-garde eclecticism which once made Ibiza famous has been rather lost.

What niche is this party filling, what is the gap in the market, the new quince you are aiming for?

Ultimately we are looking to offer a very well curated music experience for a discerning crowd. We are bringing a host of cult DJ’s to the island who dontbreally have a home there anymore, along side some of the best emerging artists who will debut with us.

What informs the booking policy?

We are booking artists we support on OpenLab already, those who we love musically, and who we respect. We are bringing a host of cult DJ’s to the island who dont really have a home there anymore, such as Ivan Smagge, Optimo and Erol Alkan, along side some of the best emerging artists who will debut with us, such as Adam Pits and Manami. We even have the first ever Ibiza appearance by Sean Johnson as A Love From Outer Space. Massively anticipated!

What is the music policy, what sounds or scenes are you looking to and why?

It’s an eclectic music policy based around quality, underground selectors who go ‘off the beaten track’ and are highly skilled at their trade. We are offering creative freedom to our DJ’s to come and be themselves, something many are sometimes unable to be on the bigger Balearic dance floors.

Tell us about the venue, why its right for this?

NUI is perfect for this venture. It’s an intimate, eccentric warehouse on the edge or town thats more Berlin than it is Balearic. It has a superb and huge function 1 system and is set top very much in the free party style. The antithesis to super clubs, but super cool with it.

Will parties be broadcast on the station?

We will be broadcasting and record all the sets from OffBeat and hosting them on OpenLab

What are you most proud of having achieved with this?

Really just to have persuaded the artists to join us on this mission. The support for the project has been really humbling and also reassuring that we are doing something right.

What are you most looking forward to about this new party?

Dancing to our fave DJ’s and artists with friends in a proper party environment. In Ibiza we don’t get to do that too often.
