Bobby B AKA Bobby Browser joins the Icee Hot family with this new EP. The San Fran label is one of our favourites here at Deep House London with a recent slew of interesting releases, in particular Avalon Emerson’s storming “Pressure”. Now we have Mr. Double B with two original tracks and a couple of remixes – one by Ghosts On Tape and the other by the always fresh John Talabot.

First up is “History” which comes forth with crunchy percussion, a wobbling bassline and a righteous spoken-word sample. Though it’s not quite up to the standards of Icee’s recent EPs, it still has enough to make it worthy of inclusion in your collection – it could have benefited from more considered use of the vocal, and perhaps been shaved down to below it’s 9+ length.

“So True” is the second of Bobby’s efforts, and it has more of a breaky feel to it with its hip-hop-esque drum programming. A soulful vocal clip is intertwined with sombre strings and twinkling keys, all very forlorn and emotional. John Talabot goes for a complete overhaul with his ‘Espiral remix’, taking just a tiny vocal snippet from the original and throwing down with a 9-minute long interpretation that would be worthy of a place on Italian label Life And Death such is its big room melancholia.

Finally Icee Hot co-dee Ghosts On Tape jumps in with his remix of “History”, taking it into moody territory with a tough, purposeful kick and a droning bassline.

A solid effort from the B man.
