Free spirits of Amsterdam will once again collect under Buiten Westen’s colorful Tree of Life this Saturday, July 15.
With a vast location, a heavyweight artist lineup, and a couple surprises in tow, navigating everything Buiten Westen has to offer may be daunting, albeit undeniably adventurous. So, with that, we thought we’d help out a bit and highlight 5 aspects of this colorful festival that most appeal to us. Naturally the music holds most of the attention, but did you know that it is also one of Amsterdam’s most tightly knit festival communities. The Community Feel
Buiten Westen is about as communal as an event in Amsterdam as you can get, with each stage hosted by one of the city’s finest promoters. This year, Pleinvrees, next Monday’s Hangover, Cartel, NGHTDVSN, LET, and Club Klijn span the spectrum of House and Techno. Expect many of each crew’s favorites artists plus a few special surprises, I’m sure…
The Colors
One thing about Buiten Westen is its gorgeous color pallette, which radiates everywhere a cross its vast space. From the colorful balloons on the tree of life to the illumination of its Ferris Wheel, color is as much a part of the Buiten Westen experience as is the music. It’s a long way from your “Techno Black,” that’s for sure.
The Location
Having moved locations from Westerpark to Ouderkerkerplas a couple years back, Buiten Westen has essentially taken over Paradise. The space will feature everything – a forest area, beach, cape, field, council, pond, and more. It’s enough to satisfy any nature conscious clubber, who is free to roam the massive green space and enjoy the eco diversity that Ouderkerkerplas has to offer.
The Activities
Just like the location, Buiten Westen also features a variety of activities you can get lost in aside from the music playing. A giant Ferris Wheel will, once again, line the horizon, while Buiten Westen’s famous Tree of Life will also feature. Also on hand will be a Conscious Club space for yoga and mindfulness workshops, while food vendors across the festival will offer hearty, traditional, and locally produced food options…and, yes, there will be meat!
The Artists
Obviously this is going to be our #1 reason as it is all about the music after all. With so many of Amsterdam’s best promoters on hand, expect a ton of its best DJs as well – Reinier Zonneveld, Unders, Patrice Baümel, Elias Mazian, Beesmunt Soundsystem, Tsepo, Carols Valdes, Fouk, and more will join the likes of DJ Koze, Moodymann, Stephan Bodzin, Rampa, Adam Port, Gerd Janson, Aurora Halal, Gui Boratto, Move D, Kiasmos, and many (many) more…
