Known for his blend of energetic, funk-driven house with a touch of hip hop, DJ Tapesh has paved himself the way to underground stardom in- and outside his home country of Germany, taking his flamboyant sets to clubs like Cocoon, Warung and across Amsterdam as well. On the second day of Amsterdam Open Air, at the Straf_Werk stage, Tapesh will make his appearance in front of the huge crowd that is expected during the two-day festival.

Brought up in his father’s clubs during the early 80s, Tapesh had no choice but to listen to the sounds of Kraftwerk and classic funk music. His impressionable young ears, have actually never stopped listening since he now spends his days playing (his own) music to others. He broke through into the public conscious thanks to productions like ‘Reminisce‘ on Get Physical, ‘Feelings‘ on Mobilee and ‘Got To Live’ on OFF, as well as other cuts on labels like Noir and Defected.

With multi-cultural roots informed by everything from house to breakdance across scenes in the UK, US and Europe, Tapesh has fomented a very unique DJ style that takes in plenty of sounds and knits them together into one greater whole, that has already earned the respect from Loco Dice, Jamie Jones, DJ T and Anja Schneider for example. His sound has taken him worldwide in a short span of time, hitting exotic countries like Egypt, Brazil and Turkey, next to the usual European and American hotspots.

On the 8th of June he will be touching down in Amsterdam for a gig at Amsterdam Open Air. After three sun-soaked editions, the immense festival will again return this year at Gaasperpark where you can enjoy the diverse musical, culinary and cultural programming. There is a diverse list of organizations that all host their very own stage. Next to the more mainstream area’s hosted by MTV for instance, you can also go more underground at the stages of Jongens v/d Wereld, Tomorrow Is Now, Kid and Straf_Werk. Of course there’s also the possibility to stay the night over (or dance the night through) at the camp site. This year Open Air will take place during Pinksteren-weekend, so that means there’s no need to take it slow on Sunday evening. Here’s Tapesh Mix to get you in the right mood fro next month.
