If you would have to name the summer anthem of last year, One Day by Wankelmut will most likely come to mind. Its captivating guitar and vocal part has been the soundtrack to almost every festival in 2012, making people go nuts across the globe.
Although his monster hit seemed to come out of nowhere, Jacob Dilßner’s (the man behind Wankelmut) already had a rich and diverse musical past. Growing up he played the klavier, a classical keyboard, under the guidance of his father. When he moved to Berlin he came into contact with house and techno, immediately falling in love with electronic music. Like many others he started out his DJ career playing in the living rooms of friends and acquaintances. However, his network in the party scene had steadily been growing and was soon asked to play at clubs and festivals. But it wasn’t until he started releasing his production work in 2011 that his career started to really take off.
The rest is history. In November 2012 he released his solo-album Wankelmoods Vol. I and last April he kicked off his festival season at Time Warp, with many top gigs to follow. We’re very proud that Amsterdam’s own Buiten Westen is going to be one of them. Sadly, we have to wait another month and a half for this one, so in the mean time you can enjoy this podcast he’s made for this killer festival. After listening to this treat, the wait for Buiten Westen is going to be even harder.
