What attracted you to drum and bass?
It was ‘93 to about ´96 when I was into it, and then as the jungle scene changed I found myself getting into house. The music was innovative had so much energy – I still listen to that stuff now- every track was different. You had so many different beats, basslines and grooves. Then a moment would happen when you’d have this beautiful moment of euphoria or darkness. Also, the structure, where things change after a breakdown and something else happens. I find that fascinating.
How do people react to this when they hear your sound?
It seems to work in my tracks (laughs). It´s funny, one of my friends said ¨My girlfriend knows when your music comes on because of the bass, you hear the bassline¨. I´ve seen the impact of some of these tracks and it´s the same thing I saw at jungle raves. I´d like to think that when you hear one of my tracks you´ve got an inkling that it´s probably one of mine, when you hear the bass.
Tell me about what you´ve got coming up in Amsterdam?
We´re teaming up with HYTE in Amsterdam. Myself, Seb Zito and Ferro are playing alongside Ricardo Villalobos, Apollonia, Ion Ludwig and Uhmo. The venue is incredible and with that line-up it promises to be really special! Its on a Sunday as well which is what Fuse is about, so I’m hoping our some of our London crowd will come over from the UK seeing as it’s so close.
“Your next EP ‘Sanctuary’ just came out on your Fuse London imprint this week. We noticed this is your first solo project in 4 years, why such a long wait?”
I’ve just been busy DJ’ing lots and putting on raves. I built a new studio a few years ago which took a bit of time and wasn’t until we stopped the weekly parties in Ibiza last summer that I had more headspace and time to focus in the studio.
“Sanctuary” EP is NOW AVAILABLE on digital & vinyl on FUSE London
