MasterSounds just created a new mixer. MasterSounds founder Ryan Shaw teamed up with Andy Rigby-Jones, the owner of Union Audio, who co-engineered Richie Hawtin’s PLAYdifferently MODEL 1, to come up with analogue rotary DJ mixer Radius 2, filling the gap of price and prime emphasis on sound quality.
This compact, easily portable mixer is hand built. The founder, Ryan Shaw described the focus of the mixer being the quality of sound: “We designed the mixer with prime emphasis on accuracy of audio reproduction, low noise floor and high headroom using components of fine quality.” Radius 2 promises precision in sound clarity on both LINE and RIAA inputs, it features easy-reading VU meters, a responsive Master EQ/Isolator, a natural sounding hi-pass filter on each channel, and an AUX send/Return system for easy integration of external effects.
Ryan adds “I deal with customers on a daily basis who are interested in audio upgrades, and central to the setup is usually a rotary mixer. Going back to the 70’s and the original disco era, DJs like Larry Levan of the Paradise Garage were obsessed with sound; Larry’s music choice was to play disco through a rotary mixer and a great sound system. ”
His company, MasterSounds functions as an equipment boutique, an ethos echoed by Union Audio. It took twelve months in their Cornwall based workshops for the mixer to reach the day. Radius 2 is a result of joint effort of Andy’s experience as a former head of design for the world-renowned Allen & Heath Xone DJ mixer range and Ryan’s family owned metalworking factory expertise in manufacturing.
It’s prices start at £1200 and goes up to £1350 (for the higher specification version) inc VAT and shipping costs. Come in silver and black colours.
