Matt Tolfrey might be one of the last great British DJs or, at least, this is what Seth Troxler has to say about the London based DJ, producer and label owner.
Matt Tolfrey’s career really kicked off in 2002 when he held his residency at Nottingham’s The Bomb. There he was able to showcase his varied selection, open mind and the ability to read and lead a crowd. These skills made it possible for the allrounder to keep UK house and techno very much on the map, helping him link with both veterans and the younger generation.
Tolfrey’s Leftroom imprint, founded in 2005, has seen releases from artists like Maceo Plex, Laura Jones, Jay Haze and DJ Bone. Of course most of his own releases have also found a home on the imprint, as well as on Culprit, murmur and Visionquest‘s sub-label Brachtune.
So far 2015 has been a busy and successful year for Matt Tolfrey. His recent fabric 81 compilation received great reviews and he also saw a release on Skream’s Of Unsound Mind imprint. This year will also see the Leftroom imprint mark its decade milestone with his ‘That’s The Way’ EP, which will be released 7 August, delivering some fresh content ahead of the celebrations. But first we have the honour of showcasing his sound and talent in this exclusive mix.
