Well, Sankeys have well and truly been the talk of Ibiza town this summer. The club has owned it in terms of line-ups, which have married big names with underground stars each and every night of the week. Residencies like Tribal Sessions and CUFF, Fuse, Next Wave and Magna Carta have all offered up the goods but sadly, tonight is the last hurrah of the 2014 season.
This is the fourth complete season Sankeys Ibiza has be party to and it is by far the strongest one yet, as evidenced by the massive crowds that turn out for this final party. The line-up focussed on the residents that have made the club such a hot property this year. As such, Duke Dumont of Blasé Boys Club and Darius Syrossian of Tribal Sessions well as Shlomi Aber, DJ Sneak, Sidney Charles and Just Be (Bushwacka!) were all on hand to supply the final sounds.
Things kicked off at ten PM and by midnight the place, both floors, was already full. DJ Sneak was holding court in the basement with a raw, jacking selection of hard hitting house tracks that got everyone in a bit of a sweat. The LED screen behind him was a whizz of captivating imagery and ‘Sankeys 4 Life’ logos and there was plenty of ghetto sleaze in the big man’s tracks.
The crowd lapped up the house vibes and comprised a range of nationalities – not just the good old English, as is sometimes the case in the height of summer. Up in The Lab and the atmosphere was just as strong with Grammy-nominated Duke Dumont, also a double chart topper, bashing out his set. It was a boisterous affair with MK’s chart topping remix of Wankelmut’s My Head Is A Jungle and Second City’s I Wanna Feel both big tunes on the night that seemed to get the best reception.
Roaming around Sankeys and exploring different DJ sets is what makes it so great, and so it was that we headed down into the dark, humid basement to catch one last set from the house star that is Darius Syrossian. His chunky beats were delivered with real passion and lots of smiles and received just as many smiles form those on the floor. Tonight is a really on point and diverse party that perfectly sums up Sankeys’ MO. Of course, everyone hopes the place will be back again in 2015 and going on tonight’s evidence; plenty are already ready and waiting for the new season to kick off!
