Tired of festivals that take place on shore? Well, the people behind Bungalup and Valtifest, ‘Meubel Stukken en Tadaa’, have the perfect solution for you, a three-day over the top festival on a cruise ship. The event is aptly named: Ship Happens.
The Italian shipping company MSC has reserved a fully loaded cruise ship for the participants of the event. Imagine packing your bags, cramming them full of your best (and worst) party outfits, and hurrying yourself over to the passengers terminal for a party like you could have only imagined in your wildest dreams. As you set foot on the humongous ship navigate your way out of the Amsterdam IJ river, the intense, non-stop party already broke loose. Here’s a trailer to give you an idea of what awaits you (it’s in Dutch unfortunately):

The line-up for the event is still unknown, but the organization says you can expect a range of diverse range of artists, from around town and across the border. Next to the line-up, there will be all kinds of shows and forms of entertainment. The only dull moment to be expected is when you’re asleep in your cabin.
Curb your enthusiasm for now, because the event will take place in 2016. The reason for coming out with the event so early is of course to check if there is enough interest for the event. You can imagine that the costs of renting a cruise ship aren’t low. That’s why you can already make reservations for one or multiple cabins. A single standard cabin costs €325,- per person, a luxurious cabin costs a little more: €450,- per person. One cabin has room for two people. Next to accommodation, the prices include three days of sailing the sea and as much food as you want in one of the 5-star restaurants that are present on the ship.
When the reservations are sold-out by the end of July 2014, the event will get a green light and you can expect a huge bloody ship entering the Amsterdam water on the 6th of May, 2016. If it doesn’t sell-out, people made reservations will get a full refund by the end of August 2014.
If Ship Happens doesn’t scream EPIC when reading this, we don’t know what will. Calling all sailors and Bermuda-wearing party instigators!
