The authorities in Amsterdam are on high alert after three deaths were reportedly caused by white heroin sold as cocaine in the last weeks. The dealer has been active since mid September and is mainly targeting naive tourists in the city center. Tourists that do decide to buy their drugs on the street, please test your powders at Jellinek Amsterdam first. It’s free of charge and doesn’t put you into contact with law enforcement. The address is Jacob Obrechtstraat 92, just South of the center. Telephone number: +31 (0)20 – 590 1590.

Next to the deaths, most recent of which were two British tourists found lifeless in their hotel beds, between fourteen and seventeen people were hospitalized and needed to be resuscitated after they had stopped breathing. The local GGD, drug information organization Jellinek and the city police are on high alert and have placed posters and large electronic signs throughout the city to warn potential street-buyers for the life threatening drug.

White heroin, when used as cocaine, can be lethal almost instantly. A Jellinek employee explains: “When people don’t know that they are using heroin and snort a line, the chances of overdosing are huge. Your heart starts beating slower and your breathing stops. People start to enter a state of dreaminess and are likely to throw up. Eventually you will start to slip away,  vomit and possibly choke on it”.

Because various people have encountered the same dealer who proactively walks up to groups of tourists in hotspots like Rembrandtplein and the Red Light District, the chief of police Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg has declared that a description of the dealer will follow as soon as possible.
