The Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan has decided that all clubs may be opened until 8 AM during ADE, granting most clubs an additional 3 hours of time before closing. The decision was made on account of the busy turnout that is expected during this time of the year, when nearly 300.000 people gather in Amsterdam for one of the biggest events in the city.
The broader opening hours apply to Wednesday October 15th, until Monday October 20th. The idea behind the decision was to prevent clubs all closing at the same time, which can cause mayhem in the overcrowded nightlife during ADE. With closing hours of 8AM, people will leave more gradually throughout the early morning.
Club owners do have to carry the responsibility to let the club crowd leave in an orderly manner. The Amsterdam municipality will hire extra neighbourhood watch to monitor the busiest streets during the night and to check whether clubs are carrying out their responsibility.
