Brian d’Souza a.k.a Auntie Flo guides us through the perfect fusion of electronic music and world influences in this mixtape.

Auntie Flo has been working on how he can create a new and distinctive sound. His work is set to incorporate more stripped back drum tracks, techno, ambient sounds and utilise more of his own edits. In leu of his Highlife World Series launch, Flo identifies his passion for the polyrhythms of african drumming so is set to include more of this in his new work, and, after having moved from vinyl to 3x CDJ’s, Auntie Flo realises that the aspect of risk is taken out of mixing, “Over the course of the year I’ve been experimenting with a third deck to help me bring that element of risk back in”.

Building on his set before Ben UFO at Field Manuevers back in September, this mixtape is a continuation of his experimentation in his new line of focus. The set was a huge success and has raised many questions as to why it wasn’t recorded, so Flo tell us that it’s “the next best thing”.  Keep an eye out throughout the year, and into next, as Auntie Flo’s prolific output of creation shows no signs of slowing. With a remix version of “Theory of Flo” (featuring the likes of The Revenge, Kornel Kovacs, Mehmet Aslan, and more), a 3xMule Musiq EP, Four Tet-championed Sofrito work, and an exclusive reworking from none other than Dixon off Innervisions‘ sublabel Philomena, one of the biggest tracks of the summer, which features in the mix.

Auntie Flo’s other recent work includes his debut full-length album “Theory of Flo”on Huntleys and Palmers which was a huge success and recognised throughout the music editorial world. The album was commended as ‘Album of the Year’ by numerous publications, including DJ Mag who credited it as  9/10. Also, as co-owner of his Highlife label, Flo enjoys welcoming new talent to the scene as well as giving him the drive to further his musical progression. Highlife launched ‘Highlife World Series‘ last year, which features a series of collaborative releases made in different locations around the world.

Auntie Flo plays the Netherlands this month on Fri 28th in Rotterdam and Sat 29th in Amsterdam.
