Sonos Studio, the home audio brand’s daughter company that engages people to music and the music industry, has set up an elaborate event programme during ADE, consisting of various lectures and exclusive musical showcases by leading movers and shakers in the underground spectrum of dance music. Expect sets, discussions and monologues from artists such as Derrick May, Seth Troxler, Jackmaster, Eats Everything, DVS1 and many more.
Thursday Oct 15 | A Homage to Originators with Resident Advisor
The Sonos Studio ADE program kicks off on Thursday, October 15, where a daytime and nightly program will allow visitors to dive deep into the origins of dance music. Essential speaker here is living Detroit legend Derrick May, who, together with The Belleville Three, laid the groundwork for what was to become known as techno.
Another iconic artist set to take the stage is DJ Vadim. Vadim has become well respected as an innovator in a number of areas during his career, “a veteran presence in the DJ community as well as one of the foremost producers in too many communities to count, Vadim is never running out of ideas” (URB Magazine). In 1994, Vadim founded his own independent record label, Jazz Fudge and signed to Ninja Tune the following year. So begun Vadim’s adventure that is now approaching its twentieth year and has seen him tour across 68 countries and perform over 2500 times.
The third speaker is the enigmatic American-born Osunlade, a producer who has proudly carried his country’s musical heritage into the 21st century. His imprint Yoruba Records is described as “a source of music created to elevate the soul.” A suitable goal for this night.
The nightly program will host a range of performances from topnotch artists such as South-Africa’s Black Coffee, Glasgowian Jackmaster, Eats Everything and contemporary underground techno favourites DVS1 and Chris Liebing.
Friday Oct 16 | the Amsterdam Sound of Voyage Direct
The next day will be all about the inventive Amsterdam spin on house music known as Voyage Direct, the superbly curated label run by Tom Trago. Join Tom and his label mates to get to the core of their influences and the rise of this new generation of producers. In the evening, Sonos Studio showcases their sound, past, present and future, with back-to-back performances throughout the house with the likes of Elias Mazian, Aardvarck, Awanto3, William Kouam Djoko, Interstellar Funk, Maxi Mill, San Proper and of course Tom Trago himself.
