The world’s most famous radio DJ flies in for a UK house event at this year’s BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Of course we are talking about Pete Tong, the Radio 1 host of the legendary Essential Mix series. Contributing a set for his weekly show is seen as equally big of an big honour as playing in a prestigious club like Fabric or Berghain. Getting the honour can also mean a big boost in the career of a young DJ, as the show is listened to by an enormous amount of electronic music fans all over the world.
The All Gone Pete Tong party is a daytime event held at the Blue Parrot beach club. With the sun and sea present and a cold mexican beer or cocktail in the hand, there couldn’t be a better setting for the sounds of the DJ’s playing the at the party. The line up is almost entirely British expect for the main act. The event features a good mix of well-established acts and up-and-coming ones. Actually the headlining man, MK, might even exceed the term ‘well-established’.
Back in 1993 young Marc Kinchen released his track Always, hitting number 1 in the US Billboard Dance Chart. A year later he repeated this trick with Love Changes. Now, more than twenty years later he is still a sought after DJ/producer and his exclusive BPM set will be one of the highlights of the festival.
Oliver $ is billed as Oliver Dollar, probably to prevent Mexican people from calling him Oliver Peso, but make no mistake, this is the guy behind massive hits like Doin Ya Thang and Pushing On. Like MK he will be playing an exclusive BPM set at Pete Tong’s event. Another hit machine is the London duo Gorgon City. Kye ‘Foamo’ Gibbon and Matt ‘RacknRuin’ Robson-Scott had their breakthrough in 2013 with the Real EP. The following year the Sirens album and numerous gigs steadily increased their status as top class producers and party smashing DJ’s. There is no need to doubt that 2015 will be at least as successful, starting here and now at BPM.
In the up-and-coming section we have Kidnap Kid and Disciples, both of whom are in the grips of very well deserved hype at the moment. Kidnap Kid has no less than three gigs at the BPM Festival, marking it the start of a very promising 2015. The three guys from London known as Disciples recently did a mixtape for us and their track They Don’t Know was one of the Essential New Tunes in Pete Tongs show last year. With his support it’s just a matter of time until their final breakthrough happens.
Of course the big man himself completes the line-up of his event that’s expected to be ‘the UK house event’ at BPM 2015.
