Constructed by the Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The Poble Espanyol was built in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exhibition as a pavilion specifically dedicated to art. An architectural museum in the open air, it shows the variety of popular Spanish architecture with very different buildings combined in perfect harmony. The aim was to give an idea of what might be an “ideal model” of an Iberian village that would bring together all the characteristics of all peninsular villages. IR BCN will utilize two parts of the Poble Espanyol: ‘‘El Monasterio’’ and ‘‘Plaza Mayor’’ for the events, of which, some names include: Maceo Plex, Ricardo Villalobos, Nina Kraviz, and more yet to be announced.
