Just days away from their appearance at Caribbean SXMusic Festival is Thugfucker – a DJ duo, composed of Greg Oreck and Holmar Filipsson, whose background story is nothing short of coincidental and intriguing.
Prior to meeting one another, both members had dynamic but short-lived political careers. They felt somewhat shackled by the structure around them, finding that the dark corners of the underground club scene were a more conducive environment for their intentions to be both humans and messengers. It was only after a cloudy alcohol-fueled discussion over the plight of the “genetically Rhythm-Blind” that Thugfucker was born, coincidentally carrying a recurring and naturally derived theme in their music.

The release of Thugfucker’s single Disco Gnome marked the beginning of their own career and the now highly respected Life and Death records, which was co-founded by Greg, DJ Tennis, and Matteo Milleri of Tale of Us. It received worldwide attention from DJs as varied as as Seth Troxler & the Visionquest crew, Jamie Jones, Guy Gerber, Loco Dice, Sasha, Pete Tong, and many more.
They’d go on collaborating with friends and label mates Tale of Us, this time in the form of an EP for Visionquest. In the meantime Thugfucker kept busy by traveling the globe playing extended back to back DJ sets at some of the best clubs and parties worldwide, ranging from Panorama Bar to Fabric to BPM and Sonar and Coachella to DC10 and Output and Katerholzig.
