Detroit’s House and Techno community is joining forces to support the neighbouring, water crisis-struck city of Flint, Michigan, in the form of a grand fundraiser dubbed “Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)”. The fundraiser bills what seems like the entire Detroit electronic music community, including Moodymann, DJ Minx, Patrice Scott, 2AM/FM, Marissa Guzman, Stacey Hale, Rick Wilhite and many others. Surprisingly, techno don Kevin Saunderson has been booked to operate the bar instead of the DJ booth for the occasion.

100 % of the proceeds of “Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)” will directly benefit Flint by providing financial resources for Flint residents and donations to the Child Health and Development Fund. The location offers 3 stages of music with a line-up of over 35 DJs and artists.

By the end of 2015, the mayor of Flint called out a state of emergency over contaminated water supplies amid calls for a criminal investigation, the resignation of its state governor and a class action lawsuit that is said to top $1 billion.

Investigators believe the entire city to be affected by high levels of lead and other pollutants in its main water supply. This includes the 100,000 residents and those who commute to Flint for work. The crisis has also spread to Detroit, where high levels of lead have been found in an alarmingly high number of children that were tested at an elementary school.

At a city council meeting on Monday night, Mayor Karen Weaver said Flint needed federal help to deal with a crisis over contaminated water supplies.
