This Sunday should have a big fat exclamation mark in your agenda, as one of house music’s pioneers will be headlining during this Sunday’s Thuishaven Wintercircus, the weekly in-door Amsterdam winter mini festival.
The idea behind Wintercircus came last year as the spin-off of Thuishaven, the hugely successful concept that offered the perfect Sunday experience for all those in for a dance or a chill-out sessions at the end of their weekend. To set forth the tradition, the organizers came up with a special winter version of the weekly event. Earlier editions have seen such artists as Joris Voorn, Dennis Ferrer, Lee Burridge, Martin Buttrich, Chez Damier and many more.
This Sunday Thuishaven will bring another two forefront figure in dance music to set Amsterdam ablaze. From the mean streets of Chicago’s south side comes Tyree Cooper, one of those artists synonymous with house music. It all began with the old R&B dusty records from his mom and uncle’s collection. While listening to Farley “Jackmaster Funk”, “The Hot Mix 5“, Ron Hardy and the electrifying energies of Frankie Knuckles, Tyree was well-schooled at an early age in the roots of house.
His early productions already gained him notoriety, like his first 12″ – “I Fear The Night“. Other hits include “Video Crash” or “Acid Crash” (1987), “Acid Over“(1988), “Turn Up The Bass“ (1988/89),“’Let’s Get Hyped“ and “Let the Music Take Control“ (1989). His back catalog can be credited as the building blocks for many productions by modern-day house music artists.
Co-headliner on Sunday is Germany’s Matthias Tanzmann. Tanzmann emerged from his native town of Leipzig in the mid-nineties, and became one of the most respected German producers, DJs and label owners in the scene. What helped to define and redefine the genres he was swimming through, were his own releases on his label Moon Harbour and his much talked about DJ sets.
He has his very own way behind the decks in the way that he combines grooves, subtle melodies and infectious basslines into soundtracks that never lose sight of the groove and keep people on the dance floor going crazy and waiting for more. Last but not least, as a label owner he has proven numerous times his professionalism and consistency.
Next to these two gentlemen other notable DJs that will make their appearance are Dutch house renegade Benny Rodrigues and Bram Fidder. Of course the Wintercircus cafe will satisfy your weekly need for craziness and no-nonsense hit medleys. We’re definitely in for this one.
