4DSOUND: Masterclass with Paul Oomen
During the ADE Sound Academy, 4DSOUND will focus on the presentation and development of inspiring new settings in music, technology and art. 4DSOUND hosts an extensive 5-day schedule of varied masterclasses, hands-on workshops and live performances on the 4DSOUND system, involving a variety of internationally respected artists, creators and thinkers.
On Wednesday, October 15th, the program commences with a special masterclass from 4DSOUND’s founder and experienced composer Paul Oomen, who will introduce the 4DSOUND system and its various methods of control. For this masterclass, Oomen will explore best practices in spatial sound design and discuss in-depth some of the most interesting examples from the 4DSOUND repertoire.
Mix, Mingle & Move
“MMM” is place where creative minds come together to relax, network and boogie. This evening will also mark the launch of a custom art exhibit influenced by “music”. Various artists will be on hand to display their work which will include illustrations, paintings, lettering and photography.

As part of this year’s ADE Playground (@ Compagnietheater), Ableton will present daily Ableton Push and Live 9 workshops, artist talks & performances, master classes and more. In addition special artist sessions on the 4DSound system will be hosted in the same building. Next to the gear-workshops and hands-on Push stations where you can try Ableton Push and Live 9 – visitors to the Ableton Playground space will have a chance to meet other Live users, product specialists and Ableton Certified Trainers.

Playground Gear is the part of ADE that appeals to the gear freaks and technuts out there. The world’s leading artists, along with the newest and most innovative gear, will be present in a series of music panels and technology master-classes.
Two of the city’s central locations, The Flemish Cultural Centre De Brakke Grond and The CompagnieTheater will host a range of different gear/software manufacturers on display. On Thursday Native Instruments will be present, showcasing their range of new and old products and experts and professionals that will be able to answer your every question.

4DSOUND: 2h exclusive masterclass with Max Cooper
Max Cooper will give an exclusive 2-hour masterclass in the afternoon, including the world premiere of six new sound sculptures specially designed for 4DSOUND. In a funny, abrasive or thought-provoking way, each of the sculptures highlights a specific aspect of spatiality. Cooper takes the participants behind the scenes with a detailed breakdown of his musical concepts and strategies applied in producing the sound sculptures.
Uncovered: The art of the album cover
The Mini Galerie proudly presents Uncovered: The art of the album cover. For decades visual artists have been creating art for record covers. By the virtue of these artists the album cover evolved from a plain package to an object of desire in its own rights. The cover design has become an important and integral part of the music experience. The exhibition will uncover the original artworks by the artists Boris Tellegen, Maya Hayuk, Jeroen Erosie, Graphic Surgery, Ekta, Merijn Hos and Rop van Mierlo that have been used for the cover design of various dance records.

Hans Zimmer has scored more than 100 films, which have, combined, grossed over 22 billion dollars at the worldwide box office. Some of his most recent works include Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave, Ron Howard’s Rush, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, History Channel’s miniseries The Bible; the Christopher Nolan-directed films Inception, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises; and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Always dreamt of dancing between world famous art works? During the Friday Nights at the Van Gogh Museum this is weekly reality and tonight you might be accompanied by the notorious twin brothers Doppelgang. You probably know this DJ duo as residents from the Amsterdam based Club Air or from their shows at Watergate (DE), Paradiso (NL), Chicago Social Club (NL), Katerholzig (DE) and Trouw (NL). These fashion boys have also spinned their tracks at the best Dutch festivals such as Milkshake, Mysteryland and Valtifest but tonight will turn the Van Gogh Museum inside out!

On Saturday afternoon, Vladislav Delay will deliver a masterclass on his working processes with intuitive and self-built control environments. This masterclass leads into a Spatial Sound Hack Lab participants meeting, that will include further technical introductions to the 4DSOUND system and working with different control formats such as Ableton Live, Max for Live and Lemur.
