D-Edge owner, resident and label boss Renato Ratier is one of those rare jack-of-all-trades in the dance music industry. Leading the way in quality contemporary house in his home country Brazil through his label and São Paolo club, Renato took up producing too some years back. Some proper EPs came from his hand before he released his debut album Black Belt back in October 2013, to much critical acclaim. A worthy remix album is now in the pipelines after more than a full year, featuring colleagues Laura Jones, Boris Werner, Tiefschwarz, Kate Simko and many more.
Check out the full Laura Jones remix at the bottom, which is a killer re-interpretation of ‘Gueixa Star’. Its moody undertone and gnarling bass line are invigorated with lush stabs, while rich percussion drives the groove along short breaks and consistent 4×4 action.
In 2011 Laura hit the limelight with Love In Me – maybe just as famed for it’s jaw-dropping rework by Maceo Plex – a summer anthem that filled her diary for the year almost overnight. But Laura´s story didn´t just begin with a big track and her tendency to always wear sunglasses, caused by an eye condition that requires her to wear glasses to protect her vision. It began at an early age spending every penny collecting music. Buying vinyl like her life depended on it after discovering underground music on an Ibizan dancefloor. Bucking the trend of one hit wonder producers lacking the DJing skills to maintain their success on the world stage, she´s made her goal to earn respect the hard way through sweat, time and relentless effort.
Laura will be playing in Amsterdam on the 12th of December at DSTRCT’s debut event in the Elementenstraat Warehouse. Together with Art Department, Huxley, Matthias Tanzmann and a range of celebrated local artists. This kick-off event of the latest player in town will, according to the organizers, “turn into a wild warehouse party with an indoor festival vibe where the varied and unique kind of line-up will blend perfectly with the legendary location”.
