Ever wondered why you’ve never heard of DJs playing mid-air during a plane flight? The people at the coolest airline in the world, Virgin Atlantic, apparently have too.  And in good Virgin fashion, they decided that it would be a great idea to invite Rudimental and Gorgon City to come and play for an exclusive audience of super fans, on their brand new 787’s inaugural flight from London to Atlanta, USA.

The event titled #FlightDecks saw the two London-based formations perform on board the latest addition to the Virgin fleet. Next to the passengers, music fans who weren’t so lucky had the possibility to track the flight from their homes, since the DJ sets were being streamed live (listen back here). Amir (Rudimental) said: “It’s like a school trip, for us, without a teacher”. It isn’t the first time the two acts have shared means of transportation, as they have already spent time with each other whilst touring.

The live and online crowd were treated to renditions Rudimental’s number one hit singles ‘Feel The Love’ and ‘Waiting All Night.’ Performing on the plane with live vocalists and horns, Rudimental played back-to-back with ‘Ready For Your Love’ hit-makers Gorgon City in a DJ collaboration at 35,000 feet above the Atlantic.

Kye Gibbon of Gorgon City said: “As for performing at 30,000 feet, #FlightDecks has got to be the most unique gig we’ve ever played and maybe will ever play. We’re chuffed to know that so many of our fans were listening from home and we’re thankful to Virgin Atlantic for helping us to share a one-off experience like this with them.”
