The latest edition of our mix series comes from Amsterdam based artist Makcim. This Russian born but Netherlands based DJ and producer takes his inspiration from an array of music.
Listening to Joy Division, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Blondie and Jazz legends such as Miles Davis and Marcus Miller in his childhood, Makcim laid the foundations for a career in music early on. When he moved to the Netherlands at age 12 he already sensed that this might be his future profession. It really started, though, when Makcim started buying records in 1996, inspired by the sound of House music. Only two years after, his first residency followed at a bar in Eindhoven, but it all really started with illegal parties, which he organized with other friends. At the same time they also founded a new platform called ‘Minimal Eindhoven’, which became fundamental to the Dutch House and Techno scene.
In 2008 he joined Amsterdam imprint Remote Area on which he released his first EP together with his music partner in crime Managemend. More releases from the two followed on Remote Area, Raw Cutz Records and Nordik Net Records. Then, in 2014 he started releasing music with Amsterdam’s Levi. Their first released ‘Daan De Pup‘ EP was picked up by German label Raum…musik and their newest ‘Lettuce EP’ just got released on Apollonia May 18.
What Makcim is widely know for are his vinyl-only DJ sets, which led him to residencies at Club der Visionaere, VBX, Hoppetosse, as well as playing famous venues like Watergate in Berlin, the now closed Trouw in Amsterdam and many others. Lay back and listen to Makcim’s great selection of tunes.
