Hidden away at a small and cozy festival terrain on the western outskirts of Amsterdam, Thuishaven – literal translation: “home base” – embodies the place where electronic music offers sun-hungry clubbers their second home during the summer.
After opening its gates last year in 2013, Thuishaven drew attention due to its free spirited home-like appeal by gathering clubbers in a familiar environment while being powered by the ever inured FUNKTION ONE soundsystem. But it’s not only the rigorous sound that brings people to the bohemian location; it’s complemented by artist like Huxley, dOP, Fur Coat, Lee Burridge, Mind Against, Joris Delacroix and of course some loved Amsterdam bound DJ’s. But during winter time, Thuishaven shows no intent of retreating back into the shadows; instead they created their winter time concept ‘Het Wintercircus’. Winter Circus is taking place in a massive circus tent during the cold seasons, where they gathered around names like Luna City Express, No Artificial Colours, Andre Galuzzi, Dennis Ferrer and Tim Green.
After a successful first series of Sunday events in 2013 with a limited amount of people being able to fit in, Thuishaven will host its first festival abroad in a remote location in Germany close to the Dutch border. Thuishaven op Reis will try to bring the meaning of festivals back to its origins. Lasting a total number of four days (8-11 August) the festivals aims to conserve Thuishaven’s ideology and familiar context by bonding its cohorts through music, daytime activities and art.
The line-up itself can please any shuffler or music fanatic for a change, with the likes of the Italian duo Tale Of Us, the Canadian bros Art Department or Defected’s Dennis Ferrer and others topping the line-up. Among the international artists confirmed for the festival, a few dutch DJ’s will also turn the night into a delightful anticipation: Miss Melera, Satori, Lumiere, De Sluwe Vos or Samuel Deep are just a few to mention. A number of 34 artists will be playing at the four-day event, with plenty of surprises to be found along the way.
Thuishaven op Reis will enforce the ‘at home’ ideology they’ve work so hard to blight together. So along with the impressive décor and backdrop, first class artists and plenty of non-musical distractions, it looks like Thuishaven is all set to move its concept outside the Amsterdam city limits.
