Once every five years, Amsterdam’s lifeline, the IJ channel, turns into a maritime wonderland during SAIL.Over the span of four days, boat-fanatics trek to Holland with an excess of 600 ships navigating along the North Sea Canal before mooring in and around the IJhaven. Despite the majestic spectacle, the event has never really struck a chord with the young, hip section of Amsterdam’s population.
A partnership between various prominent creative outfits – including KLEAR, 22Tracks, Fat Kids Cake and Deep House Amsterdam, and initiator Tosti Creative – are now aiming to change this image once and for all.
From the start of the event on August 19 until the 23rd, this collective of movers and shakers at the heart of Amsterdam’s progressive cultural, musical and nightlife scene will realize the place to be during SAIL: The Floating Bar. That’s right, a floating pop-up venue at the heart of the the IJ where you can enjoy SAIL in all its glory, accompanied by the finest DJ sets, drinks and like-minded company.
On Wednesday August 19, The Floating Bar will open its doors to visitors from 11am. Starting from 5pm, local event host KLEAR will curate an evening filled a wide range of versatile DJs until the sun goes down. The next day all-round music discovery platform 22tracks will gather up the most promising local DJs to the Floating Bar. Musically speaking, 22tracks will make sure to please both the dance floor as well as critical connoisseurs.
On Friday we at Deep House Amsterdam will take over the festivities for an evening filled with sets by close family members Prunk, Kevin Duane, Kimou and Milan. The grand finale to this four-day spectacle will be in the hands of Fat Kids Cake, who will tag along a mix of house and hip-hop DJs to keep the party going until the very end.
The Floating Bar will be sponsored by popular Asian beer brand Tiger. Expect plentiful Asian-style snacks to replenish your dancing energy.
See you at the best spot to spend this year’s SAIL Amsterdam!
